Breed: DORSET DOWN
The Dorset Down was produced in the early nineteenth century by mating Southdown rams with Hampshire Down ewes and crossing the lambs with the native Western Down type. This quick maturing breed is useful for early lamb production. Fleece and productsThe wool, resembling Southdown in quality, has a Bradford count of 54 - 58 and may be woven into medium and heavyweight fabrics or used as a particularly soft knitting yarn.
