Breed: OXFORD DOWN
Developed in the 1800s from crossing Southdown and Hampshire Down ewes with Cotswold rams. This is a large, strong sheep with a broad head and shoulders. The face is dark and covered in wool and the polled head bears a topknot. Fleece and productsFleeces weigh between 3.6 and 5.4 kg. With a staple length of between 7.5 and 12.5 cm. and a spinning count of 45 to 50. Oxford Down wool may be woven into medium and heavy weight fabrics and is particularly versatile as a knitting yarn.
