Breed: PORTLAND

Portland

One of the ancestors of the Dorset breed, the Portalnd is a small sheep, free from wool on the face and lower legs. Both sexes bear horns, those of the rams having a heavy spiral.

Fleece and products

The fleece of the lambs is initially reddish in colour and lightens to white or grey during the first few months of life. Staple length of the wool varies between 6 and 9 cm with a spinning count of 50 - 56 and an average fleece weight of between 2 and 3 kg.
