Breed: SHROPSHIRE
Originating in Shropshire and Staffordshire, the breed is thought to be the result of crossing the Southdown, Leicester and Cotswold with the local Longmynd sheep. It became officially recognised in 1848. The Shropshire is medium in size. Both sexes are polled, with a black face and wool-covered forehead and black legs. Fleece and productsThe heavy-yielding fleece is dense and elastic to the touch and weighs about 5 kg.. The wool has a staple length of 7 cm. and a count of 56/50. The yarn is used for a wide range of woven and knitted items.
